Celebrating Decades of Community Spirit

For over three decades, the Wallingford Rotary has been a cornerstone of the local Celebrate Wallingford festival, with their first participation dating back to October 10, 1987. As a longstanding civic organization, Wallingford Rotary has always had a deep commitment to giving back to the community. Their involvement in the festival is just one example of how they bring people together in the spirit of service and camaraderie.

The Rotary Club of Wallingford was chartered in February 1923, just days before Rotary International celebrated its 18th birthday. Over the years, the club has earned a reputation for its spirited members who contribute their time and talents to a wide range of community service projects. The Rotary Club’s commitment to Wallingford is reflected in the more than $1 million it has contributed to the community through The Wallingford Foundation, the charitable arm of the club.

The Wallingford Foundation, governed by five past presidents of the Rotary Club, serves as the conduit through which the Rotary’s charitable efforts flow. The foundation addresses four key elements: literacy, education, charitable, and scientific causes. In 2024 alone, the foundation received approximately $116,000 in requests and disbursed $33,000 to support local organizations. Over the years, it has granted about $1 million to various local causes, including the Wallingford Public Library, the Wallingford YMCA, and the Spanish Community of Wallingford, among many others.

In addition to local contributions, the Wallingford Foundation also supports international efforts, such as the Good Samaritan Hospital in the Dominican Republic and the installation of Biosand Water Filters for impoverished communities. The Rotary Club’s dedication to service extends far beyond Wallingford, making a global impact through its charitable initiatives.
